Why thermal imaging matters in Minnesota

Minnesota winters expose insulation failures in a way few other climates do. A 5°F surface-temperature difference on a wall in February is invisible to the eye — but it's glaring on a thermal camera, and it's often the first sign of missing insulation, ice-dam damage, or framing-cavity air leakage. Typical thermal-imaging findings in south-metro homes

• Missing batt insulation in gable-end walls on Savage and Burnsville 1980s two-stories — visible as a cold "ladder" across framing bays.
• Recessed can-light air leakage into attics — a huge ice-dam driver on pre-2008 Lakeville and Shakopee homes.
• Overheating breakers and loose lug terminations in aging Burnsville Federal Pacific / Zinsco panels.
• Active plumbing leaks behind vanity walls — often the first sign of a slow supply-line drip.
